On 26 August 2020 at 6pm, Henrik Hürden solo exhibition “The Story of One Sprat” opens at Staapli 3 Art Gallery.
The exhibition “The Story of One Sprat” displays eight black-and-white acrylic paintings that depict a photorealistic sprat in different situations and dream states.
“About 6 months ago, I was having breakfast with my parents in Saaremaa when I noticed a glass jar of spiced sprat with a black-and-white label of a sprat on its cap. Looking at the rustic fish in profile made me feel that even when I leave this breakfast table it will not leave me alone. I was looking at the image for a long time and almost fell into a state of deep hypnosis. During the nights following this breakfast I had dreams of the sprat having to overcome/swim many strange adventures, and those dreams were also in black-and-white. When I thought about this fish jar and those dreams, I had an idea of telling the story of one sprat. In this story, the sprat is the hero of its dreams.” (Henrik Hürden)
Henrik’s artwork is inspired by technical and mechanical objects and details, mythical stories and nature. His paintings theatrically convey a mystical or unwordly atmosphere, frozen or stored moments. They urge the viewer to notice the ephemeral nature of a moment and direct attention to detail.
Henrik has graduated with a degree in scenography at the Estonian Academy of Arts and has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions at Telliskivi Creative City, Staapli 3 Art Gallery, Ministry of Rural Affairs and at Nautica Shopping Centre Cocodrillo Pizzeria.
